LA Union Station
Background
Union Station Los Angeles is one of the largest and most historic transportation hubs in the United States, serving thousands of commuters and visitors each day. As both a transit center and cultural landmark, the station continuously seeks opportunities to enhance the passenger experience while celebrating the history and artistic identity of Los Angeles.
To bring new life to several darker corridors throughout the station, LA Union Station partnered with DSA Signage to create a secure display solution that could showcase rotating artwork from local artists while standing up to the demands of a high-traffic public environment.
The Challenge
The station wanted to transform underutilized hallway spaces into engaging visual experiences that would improve the atmosphere for travelers and highlight local Los Angeles artists. The displays needed to withstand constant public exposure and protect valuable artwork from vandalism, unauthorized access, and everyday wear and tear.
The project required a solution that was both visually appealing and durable enough to perform reliably for years while allowing artwork to be updated as exhibits changed over time.
The Solution
DSA Signage implemented its Hidden Hinge Light Box system to create secure, illuminated art displays throughout the station. Designed with concealed hinges and locking access, the displays protect artwork while maintaining a clean, architectural appearance that complements the historic transit environment.
The illuminated light boxes brighten previously dark corridors and create a welcoming atmosphere for passengers while providing a flexible platform for rotating art installations.
