Los Angeles, CA
Turning a bland section of an underground walkway into a colorful and vibrant art escape.
Built in 1939, Union Station is the largest railroad passenger terminal in the Western United States.
This iconic Los Angeles landmark is a vibrant symbol for the arts, entertainment, and culture, fashioning a new connection to the community. Union Station is more than a bustling transportation center in the heart of Los Angeles; it is a true cultural hub connecting the boundlessly fluctuated and lovely components of one of the world’s great urban communities. Today, the station has evolved into a vibrant transportation center serving 75,000 passengers daily.
As part of an ongoing restoration project, L.A. Union Station wanted to enhance the visual experience as passengers make their way through the station by showcasing new art on the walls connecting Union Station East to Union Station West. And what better way to do that than with DSA’s illuminative light boxes? DSA created illuminated displays to brighten “The Heart of Los Angeles” series, showcasing local artists’ artwork. The photographs relate to the station’s architectural heritage, transit usage, cultural significance, and physical and social relationship with neighboring communities.
DSA designed and fabricated more than 30 Hidden Hinge LED Lightboxes with two keyed locks, ideal for outdoor and high traffic areas.
