Transforming a curved room into an interactive exhibition in Seattle’s Iconic Space Needle.
The Space Needle is a breathtaking landmark of the Pacific Northwest and one of Seattle’s iconic locations.
It was built and officially open to the public in 1962 for the World’s Fair, drawing over 10 million guests. From that point forward, more than 1.3 million guests annually have ridden its elevators up 605 feet to take in the views of the city, Downtown Seattle, Puget Sound, the Cascade Range, and the Olympic Mountains. In 2016, Space Needle moved ahead to create a 21st-century experience for Space Needle visitors, showcasing historic events in American cultures and evolution.
Challenge
The main challenge in this project was to design curved light boxes that will integrate perfectly into the shape of the room and guide visitors through the exhibit as they are making their way up and around the sphere. Being installed in one of the most popular touristic attractions in the country, the exhibit was also created to be modern, high-tech, and attractive for visitors to learn about the building history.
Solution
DSA designed 15 Large Format Light Boxes with curved extrusions in trapezoidal shapes, including interactive mounts to create multilevel imagery with film graphics.
