High-resolution images from fabric light boxes have become as essential in real life as they are in the digital sphere. Using a savvy combination of LED lighting and special fabric, a fabric light box illuminates graphics that can immediately capture onlookers’ attention, whether you’re showcasing a new product or displaying your corporate signage.

Companies ranging from independently-owned restaurants to massive brands like Cartier employ fabric SEG graphics for their eye-catching power and versatility. Graphics can be replaced as frequently as you like, allowing you to display images, information, text, and more throughout the lifecycle of your product.

This post will lay out the steps for SEG frame assembly, along with a few best practices to follow for seamless, stunning images.

What Is an SEG Graphic?

“SEG” is short for “Silicone Edge Graphics.”

The base of the graphic is a very thin profile composed of a high-tension specialty fabric with an image produced through a dye-sublimation process, which has a slender silicone strip and a gasket on its edges. This graphic is then installed into a recessed frame groove for back illumination and an ultra-smooth, “frameless” backlit look.

These images make a tremendous visual impact, so much so that they’re used across an array of industries, including:

  • Retail environments
  • Bars and restaurants
  • Sports arenas
  • Airports
  • Medical centers
  • Art galleries and museums
  • Offices or corporate environments

Fabric SEG graphics have also become a welcome sight at exhibitions and trade shows, helping those who use them stand out from the crowd and make a striking impression.

Best Practices for SEG Light Box Installation

There are a few best practices to consider when installing or replacing your SEG graphics. These include:

  • Wear cotton gloves to avoid fingerprints
  • Work slowly to avoid rumpling your graphics
  • Avoid overstretching your graphic, as doing so may result in creasing

You’ll gain more confidence each time you install or replace your single-sided or double-sided graphics.

SEG Fabric Installation – Video Guide

It would seem like a technology as remarkable as SEG fabric light boxes would require an expert to install. However, the process of an SEG fabric installation is surprisingly simple to change out your custom-sized graphics. Here’s how it works.

Step 1: Place Your Fabric Frames on a Flat Surface

To assemble your SEG frame, start by placing it on a clean, flat surface with the back portion lying down with the LEDs facing upwards toward the ceiling.

If you’re carrying out an SEG frame assembly on a larger piece and must do it standing up, make sure the front of the frame is resting against a clean, smooth wall.

Step 2: Insert Your Graphic

With your frame still lying flat, tuck the SEG fabric into the silicon edge and insert it into the recessed groove. Start with the corners to prevent the SEG fabric from becoming bunched up. Once inserted in one corner go to the opposite side that’s diagonally across and insert the SEG fabric into that corner.

Step 3: Stretch Your Graphic Across the Display

Once the corners and aluminum frame are secure, tuck the fabric in with the silicon in the center of the panel on each side and make your way around the frame’s perimeter until the entire graphic is pulled taut across the display.

How to Replace Fabric SEG Graphics

Maybe you have a new product you’d like to showcase, or maybe the season calls for illuminating a holiday promotion. Whatever the case, replacing the graphics in your fabric light box is just as simple as installing them in the first place.

First, locate the fabric pull tab and pull it gently to remove the fabric graphic itself from the hardware. Then, use the steps outlined above to swap out the old graphic with a new one.

Benefits of Fabric SEG Graphic Light Boxes

You know an exceptional fabric light box the second you see one — the colors are rich and beautifully saturated, the brightness is eye-catching, and whatever is on display appears sharp and enticing.

But the visual impact of a fabric light box is just one part of its magic. These fabric light-up devices can also benefit organizations and brands by:

  • Adding value to a space, whether it’s a cultural institution, a cosmetic dermatology practice, or an upscale boutique
  • Amplifying the edginess and trend-setting capabilities of a business
  • Increasing the visibility of corporate signage
  • Expanding brand awareness

Additionally, fabric light boxes build credibility and authority and help you stand out from your competition.
